Agent Profiles

Four active agents carry on in what we think is our traditional manner. We are editorially minded lovers of the written word–today primarily in book form, although sometimes in short stories and even in multimedia garb (ready for that Ms. Cather, Messrs. Crane, Dreiser, et al.)–who are tough and aggressive deal makers for our clients.

Our interests range over nearly all of what we call trade books, i.e., the books you find in a bookstore. Fiction of all sorts, non-fiction (contemporary journalism, history, biography, etc.), juveniles (although primarily young adult and middle grades, since we don´t specialize in illustrators, but having said that I should add that we represent several of the best), science-fiction and fantasy.

What we are looking for and what is most exciting is an author with his or her own voice, something that stands out. We handle all the rights that grow out of our clients´ work: film, television, magazine, and foreign. In some cases we use sub-agents for various specialties, such as publishing sales abroad, or sales to film and television. We remain in charge and responsible to the clients in all situations.

William Reiss

William Reiss

William Reiss has been in this firm since 1971. At the time he joined our ranks, we were in the Scribner building on 48th Street and 5th Avenue. Rooms were divided by partitions that reached two-thirds the height of each room. Bill’s training regimen was to eavesdrop and ask questions, and he still does. He has a penchant for junk food, historical narratives, biography, slightly off-beat fiction (WICKED by Gregory Maguire, PAINT IT BLACK by Janet Fitch) and nonfiction, children’s books (STONER & SPAZ by Ron Koertge), nature writing (LIVING AT THE END OF TIME by John H. Mitchell). He is also (in his own words) a lazy, neo-Luddite, and is waiting for electronic communication to be so user-friendly that it will become even simpler say, than telephoning (which he doesn’t like to do either). His special interests include commercial fiction, suspense, business, science, and multi-cultural fiction.

Warren Frazer

Warren Frazier

Warren Frazier joined the firm in 1992. His primary focus is on fiction, but he has an interest in particular areas of nonfiction including technology, history, world affairs and foreign policy. He is the agent for Joyce Carol Oates, author of the acclaimed New York Times bestseller THE ACCURSED; Adam Johnson, author of New York Times bestseller THE ORPHAN MASTER’S SON and winner of the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in fiction; Jess Walter, author of the #1 New York Times bestseller BEAUTIFUL RUINS; Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Olen Butler, author of THE STAR OF ISTANBUL; G. He is a graduate of Princeton University and a father of two young children. On the weekends, he is either reading or still trying to finish building kitchen cabinets.
